SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 24 – Michael
Gaffney was Muhammed Ali's
personal photographer from
1977 through 1978. Now there
is a lawsuit to assert the
copyright to the photographs.
In the case of Gaffney v.
Muhammad Ali Enterprises,
Inner City Press on June 24
went cover it.
First it was
asked to identify itself, and
said, "A member of the press,
not a
participant."
Then a question:
"Which publication?"
Would this happen
in an open
courtroom?
Counsel
for photographer Gaffney had
amended the Complaint to
include LVMH, parent of TAG
watch company which put out a
Muhammed Ali commemorative
watch selling for $3000,
misusing photos, he
says.
U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang
said she has a good friend in
LVHM's media office; she said
she'll tag the issue.
A participant
said he didn't see any
conflict but left it to Judge
Wang. She explained she
wouldn't want to be involved
if her friend got deposed and
there was a discovery dispute.
She said she'd inquiry into
it.
At 4:15 pm Judge
Wang said, I have another
proceeding in 15 minutes.
But there was
nothing listed at 4:30 pm in
Calendar Events on PACER.
Soon, at 4:21 pm, the
proceeding was over.
The case is
Gaffney v. Muhammad Ali
Enterprises LLC et al.,
18-cv-8770 (Daniels /
Wang).
