SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Aug 26 – A defendant charged
with slashing the face of a
witness in a federal trial
asked on August 26 to be
released.
U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Ronnie Abrams held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
CJA lawyer
Donna Newman did the best she
could for her client,
describing smoke conditions in
the prison and the difficulty
of going over discovery
material when the video calls
can be heard by other inmates
and presumably
authorities.
Judge Abrams said
she would look into that, but
denied to release the
defendant, citing the violent
allged conduct.
The case is US v.
Mella, 20-cr-291 (Abrams)
