SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 12 – Christopher Santos
Felix bit off one half inch of
a DHS Officer's finger during
the course of being arrested
in The Bronx on March 3, 2019.
On April
12, U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Richard M. Berman
held his sentencing. Inner
City Press covered
it.
The
officer, Zoelle Rivera,
submitted a victim's impact
letter, asking for "the
maximum punishment allowed by
law." The sentencing guideline
was 63 to 71
months.
Judge
Berman recounted that the
defendant came from an intact
family - his father is or was
a doctor in the Dominican
Republic, who often came to
New York and practices on Long
Island - but fell into alcohol
abuse and mental issues.
He sentenced him
to 45 months, 25 months of
which have already been
served.
The defendant
spoke, saying that he is the
first in his family to be
incarcerated and has brough
shame to his family.
The case is US v.
Santos Felix, 19-cr-228
(Berman)
