SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 14 – Chealique Curry
pleaded guilty to having a gun
in a shoebox. The gun was
unloaded, but Mr. Curry was
and is a
felon.
On June 14, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Alvin K. Hellerstein held a
sentencing proceeding. Inner
City Press covered
it.
Curry's
sentencing submission noted
that he was "neglected by a
mother who struggled with drug
addiction and separated from
an incarcerated father."
His lawyer said
the firearm was not on Mr.
Curry's person but stowed away
elsewhere in the
apartment.
Since
September 17, 2019 Curry was
been in the MCC, most of it in
lockdown.
His lawyer asked
for time served.
Judge
Hellerstein, taking the time
to explain his sentenced, said
Curry will spend 51 months in
prison. Curry asked that it be
in "Cadre" in the MCC, a rare
request.
The case is US v.
Curry, 19-cr-742
