SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 24 – Johanky De
Luna-Almanzar was charged in
connection with a Federal
narcotics conspiracy, while up
on state charges for which he
faces an eight year minimum.
On May 24,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Chief Judge Laura Taylor Swain
held his sentencing. Inner
City Press covered it.
In
the gallery with Inner City
Press were at least three
family members. More had
written letters. The defendant
had worked as a delivery
driver and a clerk; his reason
for the crime was presented as
economic.
Judge
Swain weighed all this and
sentenced him to 36 months,
stating that she expected the
eight years on the state
charge would be consecutive
and that then he will be
deported.
His father in the
Dominican Republic has offered
to put him up.
The case is US v.
De Luna-Almanzar, 21-cr-303
(Swain)
