SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 26 – Luis Rivera was
videotaped entering the Mazaar
Lounge on March 17, 2019,
drinking and them smashing a
bouncer on the head.
He has been
in jail since.
On April
26 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Analisa Torres held
Rivera's sentencing. Inner
City Press covered it.
Judge
Torres recited the exhibits
underlying this "violation of
supervised release," down to
the neck tattoo in the Lounge
entry video. (Mazaar Lounge is
a hookah bar on Essex Street
not far from the SDNY
courthouse).
Rivera's
lawyer, who had a state
proceeding at the same time
which he pushed back for this,
said his client's parents run
a small restaurant on the
Lower East Side.
Judge Torres,
noting he has been
incarcerated for two years
already, issued a sentence of
time served.
The case is US v.
Rivera, 19-cr-313 (Torres)
