SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 2 – Angel Suarez is
charged with a range of
violations of supervised
release including, it emerged,
being shot.
On November 2 in the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York,
now Second Circuit Court of
Appeals Judge Richard J.
Sullivan held a VOSR
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge
Sullivan asked to see the
video of the incident in which
Suarez was shot, of which his
counsel wrote that "rather
than express a word of
sympathy for Mr. Suarez having
been the victim of gunshot on
October 20th, the Government
takes pains to suggest that
the circumstances are so
suspicious as to warrant
imprisoning Mr. Suarez."
After
seeing the video, and allowing
argument, Judge Sullivan
summoned the U.S. Marshals.
They sat in the
back of the 21st floor
courtroom, where Inner City
Press was, until remand was
ordered. Then shoelaces were
removed and handcuffs applied.
The defense lawyer asked for a
week to file more papers.
The case is US v.
Suarez, 11-cr-839
(Sullivan)
