SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 15 – Construction workers
sued Bronx-based HKS Builders
& Consultants Inc. for
being underpaid. Then HKS
stopped paying its
lawyers.
On September 15
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Katherine Polk Failla
held a withdrawal of counsel
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
HKS'
lawyers said the company
hadn't paid for anything since
January 3; it was possible the
owner is sick.
Judge
Failla expressed concern that
HKS could now default without
knowing it, and so asked that
the company and owner's
addressed be sent to her
Chambers, and that the
transcript be ordered and
mailed and put on the
docket.
A
corporation cannot proceed pro
se.
This case is
Samaniego et al v. HKS
Builders & Consultants
Inc. et al., 19-cv-10283
(Failla)
