SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 3 – Ebrima Faal came to
the United States in 2006 at
the age of six, after being
born in Serre Kunda in The
Gambia. In September 2020 he
was arrested with a loaded
handgun in his backpack along
with marijuana. He has been
under home confinement since.
On
June 3, U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Victor Marrero
held Faal's sentencing. Inner
City Press went and covered
it.
Judge
Marrero asked why it had taken
nearly two years to get the
case to this point. Counsel
blamed COVID, and the need to
check with an immigration
lawyer.
Faal spoke for
himself, pointing out his
girlfriend in the courtroom
gallery and remarking that
"there is too much going on in
The Bronx." He asked for a
non-custodial sentence.
Judge
Marrero said the guideline was
18 to 24 months and that the
recommendation was 366 days,
to allow for so-called "good
time."
He adopted
that recommendation and set
August 3 as the date for
self-surrender.
The case is US v.
Faal, 20-cr-641
(Marrero)
