SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 26 – Joseph Jean-Louis
was sentenced to 151 months in
prison for bank robbery in
Missouri. Now he is up for
sentencing for the same in New
York.
Back on
November 9, 2020 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Ronnie Abrams held a violation
of supervised proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
Jean-Louis
said, among other things, that
Jean-Louis is not his name,
that he is an American soldier
and that "I just want to walk
out of here today."
Judge Abrams said she could
not make out everything that
he said, that some should be
transcribed as
inaudible.
It seemed
possible, at least to this
reporter, that there might be
mental / competence issues at
play, we reported at the time.
Now on
April 26, that is confirmed.
With Jean-Louis up for
sentencing, there was a
commotion and Judge Abrams put
off the sentencing, asking
about mental health beds at
Butner. She noted that
Jean-Louis robbed another bank
after a long sentence and that
there are issues. It was
compassionate, but where is it
headed?
The case is
US v. Jean-Louis, 19-cr-858
(Abrams)
