SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 17 – Jose Francisco
Guzman-Cabrera was indicted
under seal for selling
fentanyl via the Internet into
the United States from the
Dominican Republic.
He was arrested
and extradited to the
US.
On May 17,
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Sidney H. Stein held a
change of plea proceeding,
in-person. Inner City Press
covered it, also
in-person.
Guzman was
in a yellow jump suit. He
asked a number of questions,
including why supervised
release was being imposed if,
as he understood it, he would
be deported. Judge Stein said
Yes, that probably would be
the case.
Venue was murky.
Guzman said he had not know
where in the US the fentanyl
(or hydrocodone) orders were
being sent. He had not eaten
since the previous night, he
said. (Judge Stein established
that he was not light
headed).
The plea
was accepted and sentencing
set for September 2.
The case is US v.
Guzman-Cabrera, 18-cr-868
(Stein)
