SDNY COURTHOUSE,
August 11 – Shawn Young on
drug charges was sentenced in
2009 to 16 years in prison and
ten years of supervised
release, with drug treatment
and therapy required.
On August
11, U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Richard M. Berman
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
Back in late 2019
under the First Step Act,
Young was re-sentenced to time
served.
Then in May 2021
the Second Circuit Court of
Appeals ruled that the
District Court erred in
failing to explain its
decision not to reduce his
supervised release.
On August
11, the supervised release was
cut to five years, and after
an inspiring talk (and
track-record) by Young, the
conditions of drug treatment
and therapy were removed, as
no longer needed. There is
another proceeding on January
25, 2022.
The case is US v.
Young, 06-cr-495 (Berman)
