SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 15 – A black attorney of
Haitian descent, Ferlande
Milord-Francois, was working
in the NYS Office of the
Medicaid Inspector General
when she was told "Your angry
black face scares me." She
sued.
On September 15
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lewis J. Liman held oral
argument. Inner City Press
covered it.
New York
State's attorney argued that
the "angry black face"
commented couldn't be
attributed to supervisors, and
that angry while
unprofessional was not
necessarily
racist.
The plaintiff's
attorney cited the current
unrest as showing that this
conduct must be acted on.
The case is
Milord-Francois v. The New
York State Office of the
Medicaid Inspector General et
al., 19-cv-179 (Liman)
