SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 20 – Michael Pearse, an
admitted fraudster from
Sidney, Australia, was
sentenced on October 20 to 109
months. Time he spent in
detention in Australia
awaiting extradition will be
subtracted, as well as his
time in the MDC.
Pearse said
in the MDC there are knives
and gangs.
The sentencing
was by U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Analisa Torres.
Inner City Press covered it.
Judge Torres noted that of the
$10 million Pearse stole,
there is no evidence he gave
any to charity. There will be
forfeiture of $10 million.
Then deportation.
Judge Torres
urged Pearse to teach others
in the MDC. He replied that he
is already teaching classes.
It was previously
annoucned that Pearse an
Australian national who was
extradited to the United
States from Australia in
January 2021, pled guilty
today to conspiracy to commit
wire fraud stemming from his
participation in a fraudulent
scheme to charge hundreds of
thousands of mobile phone
customers millions of dollars
in monthly fees for
unsolicited, recurring text
messages about topics such as
horoscopes, celebrity gossip,
and trivia facts, without the
customers’ knowledge or
consent – a practice to which
the conspirators referred as
“auto-subscribing.”
The overall case
is US v. Wedd, et al.,
15-cr-616
