SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 22 – Alberto Moreta is on
trial for conspiracy to
distribute narcotics, before
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Sidney H. Stein. Inner
City Press is covering it.
On the
morning of June 15, a New York
Police Department officer was
cross examined at length about
initial co-defendant Jesus
Manuel Rios Quintero walking
by the officer and getting
into Moreta's car.
The officer said,
Yeah, I've seen a Target
shopping bag before.
By the
afternoon another, slicker
NYPD officer was on the
witness stand.
He acknowledged
perusing Moreta's phone, and
writing a report at the
request of an SDNY
prosecutor.
But he
dodged on the rest, including
messages about futbol (spelled
out "futball" by the defense),
saying he does not speak
Spanish.
On June 22, the
US Attorney's Office wrote in
and withdrew its request that
Judge Stein charge the jury
regarding attempt, and asked
that attempt be dropped from
the verdict sheet.
The case is US v.
Moreta, 19-cr-307 (Stein)
