SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 8 – Hector Bonaparte
sought release from pre-trial
detention in the Metropolitan
Detention Center in Brooklyn,
which is under COVID lockdown
due to infections on the 5th
and 7th floors.
He is housed on
the 6ht floor of the
MDC.
On December 8
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Valerie E. Caproni held
a proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Bonaparte's
lawyer said he could have
gotten a gun if he'd wanted
one; instead, he only texted
about it. The AUSA said
Bonaparte was providing guns
and drugs.
Judge Caproni
said, based on the prospect of
danger to the community, she
would not release Bonaparte.
She did however direct the
AUSA to inquire with the MDC
why it could not give
Bonaparte a colonoscopy more
quickly.
Bonaparte's
lawyers expressed "surprise to
learn that the government and
the Court had communicated
separately about the medical
records, and that the
government could easily and
quickly obtain them in the
absence of a HIPAA release or
any consent from Mr.
Bonaparte."
The case is US v.
Bonaparte, 19-cr-862 (Caproni)
