Man Ending Supervision Went Off Meds So A Warrant Issued, Now Withdrawn in SDNY

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, June 15 – Kevin R. Scott is nearly the end of his supervised release.

On May 13, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge William H. Pauley III held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Scott did not show up or call in.

Even the defense lawyer expressed concern. There was talk of Scott going off his meds; issues of competency and the need for an evaluation were discussed.

Judge Pauley said he saw no alternative to issuing an arrest warrant, as Scott was a danger at least to himself.

The warrant was to be e-mailed to chambers.

On June 10, the US Attorney's Office wrote to Judge Pauley that the U.S. Marshals have located Scott in a residential substance abuse treatment program, and that since the Court wants him to remain there, the arrest warrant should be withdrawn.

And on June 15, it was: "ORDER as to Kevin R. Scott. The warrant issued on May 13, 2021 for Mr. Scott's arrest is hereby vacated (Signed by Judge William H. Pauley, III on 6/15/21)."

The case is US v. Scott, 13-cr-962 (Pauley)
