SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 28 – Ramon Daniel
Felix-Leonardo had been set
for trial on drug charges on
August 27, 2018.
Then he "failed
to appear at the courthouse
for trial. Cesar de Castro Esq
appeared at trial that day and
was unable to explain the
failure of the defendant to
appear."
On
October 28 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Katharine Polk
Failla held a change of plea
proceeding, with the defendant
and de Castro. Inner City
Press covered it.
The
defendant had been arrested in
the Dominican Republic and
extradited. Judge Failla asked
him had he known what he was
doing when he skipped the
trial.
He said his head
had been jumbled by
pressure.
Have you
seen the Pimintel letter,
Judge Failla asked. No,
was the answer.
Then de Castro
said helpfully that he hadn't
called it Pimintel, but "guia,"
guidelines.
Finally the plea was accepted,
and sentencing set for March
2, 2021.
The case is US v.
Felix-Leonardo, et al.,
17-cr-636 (Failla)
