SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 14 – Roberto Beras is
serving a 292-month prison
sentence for money laundering.
He has asked for compassionate
release.
On December
14 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Ronnie Abrams held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge Abrams told Beras that
even if she were to release
him, there is an immigration
detainer.
He might go into
ICE custody, with even worse
risk of
COVID.
While Beras
earlier in his long-running
case had retained / paid
counsel, Judge Abram appointed
CJA counsel Aaron Mysliweic on
a limited basis to advise
Beras about the ICE detainer
issues, and to report back to
the Court.
The case is US v.
Beras, 99-cr-75 (Abrams)
