SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 6 – The Italian Republic
has been sued for seizing,
through the Manhattan D.A.,
the Head of
Alexander.
Safani Gallery says it
researched and bought the Head
on June 20, 2017, for
$152,625.
But in 2018,
Italy said it owns it, that it
was stolen from the
Antiquarium Forensic archives
58 years before.
Italy
complained to the Manhattan
D.A. whose office, the same
day, got a warrant to seize
the Head. Safani sued in 2019
and the case is assigned to
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Vernon S. Broderick.
Inner City Press is covering
the case.
On September 3,
Italy's lawyer filed
opposition to Safani's request
for permission for a second
amended complaint.
The case is
Safani Gallery, Inc. v. The
Italian Republic, 19-cv-10507
(Broderick)
