SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 3 – Troy Allert was up for
sentencing for Violations of
Supervised Release and his
lawyer noted that he was laid
off by Amazon due to social
distancing.
On October 1 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul G. Gardephe held a
sentencing proceeding. Inner
City Press covered it.
Allert's
lawyer's presentation included
that he had "obtained
employment in October 2019 at
an Amazon warehouse in Staten
Island, making sure that
purchased items were packed to
the shipped to the purchaser.
However, due to social
distancing restrictions as a
result of the COVID-19
pandemic, Mr. Allert was laid
off in July 2020."
Judge
Gardephe listened, and told
Allert he'd give him this
second change. He sentenced
him to time service, but
restarted two more years of
supervised release.
The case is US v.
Allert, 18-cr-364 (Gardephe)
