SDNY COURT
EXCLUSIVE, Nov 3 – Alexander
Williams, jailed in Rikers
Island, has sued the City of
New York and individual
defendants for violations of
his rights.
On November
3, 2022, U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Magistrate Judge
Katherine H. Parker held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Williams,
speaking for himself, said
that corrections officers
confiscated his Torah, says it
was a security risk and that
only Gideon's Bibles are
allowed.
The City's
lawyer said he was aware of
the allegation and asked for
additional time to interview
the individual defendants, to
see if their are entitled to
his Office's representation.
Judge Parker gave the City
until the end of the year.
The case is
Williams, Jr. v. City of New
York, et al., 21-cv-1083
(Gardephe / Parker)
