SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 6 – Raysette Mercedes
pleaded guilty to bank fraud
but said her co-defendant made
her do it. Together they
opened fraudulent bank
accounts to deposit stolen
U.S. Treasury checks.
On July 6, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Alison J. Nathan held
her sentencing. Inner City
Press covered it.
The US
Attorney's Office said she was
not a leader, and that a
sentence below the the agreed
guidelines sentence of 33 to
41 months would be
appropriate.
The
defense's sentencing
submission cited mental
issues, with redactions.
Judge
Nathan gave a sentence of time
served, followed by four years
of supervised release.
