SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 8 – Ian Carmichael came to
the U.S. from Trinidad at age
7, and served in the Air
Force. More recently, he was
convicted of bringing firearms
from Florida to New York for
sale.
On November 8 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul G. Gardephe held a
sentencing proceeding. Inner
City Press covered
it.
Carmichael's
Federal Defender recounted her
clients many set back - the
death of this mother in an
accident, a lawyer stealing
all the settlement money, the
suicide of his son. She asked
for time served, in part to
avoid deportation.
Judge Gardephe,
showing mercy, adopted the
time served suggested of the
defense. He imposed that a
year of it be under home
confinement, and three years
of supervised release, 250
hours of community service.
The case is US v.
Carmichael, 19-cr-743
(Gardephe)
