SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 9 – Omar Jaata pleaded
guilty to mail fraud - then
tried to withdraw it, citing
ineffective assistance of
counsel.
On November 9, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Paul G. Gardephe held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
The
counsel called ineffective was
there, and said he still gets
along well with Mr. Jaata. A
counsel that had been assigned
on an interim basis was there,
but will not return.
The
prosecutor was asked to get a
third lawyer assigned to
Jaata, but not on November 9
because the first lawyer
happened to be the CJA lawyer
on duty.
So it will
be November 10 or after, with
the sentencing now set for
February 24, 2022 at 4:30 pm.
The case is
US v. Jaata, 18-cr-162
(Gardephe)
