SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 6 – A class action
seeking to vindicate the
rights of homeless children in
shelters to receive a sound
education during the COVID-19
pandemic was filed against New
York City on November 24,
2020.
On
September 3, 2021, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Alison J. Nathan held a
fairness hearing, by phone.
Inner City Press called in and
covered it.
The
Coalition for the Homeless has
said NYC has "begun installing
WiFi in homeless shelters and
have substantially completed
installation in the Shelters
contemplated by the Settlement
as of August 31, 2021...
Eleven shelters do not have
in-unit WiFI
installed.
Judge
Nathan noted that the call in
number had been posted on the
door of her courtroom in 40
Foley Square.
The phone lines
were unmuted to ask if anyone
on had an objection. None was
heard. So the settlement is
accepted.
The case is E.G.
et al v. City of New York et
al., 20-cv-9879 (Nathan)
