SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 1 – Tamara Wareka, also
known as Tarama Williams, is a
professional photograph whose
photo of model Kiani Alexis
pursing her lips was stolen,
she says, by Shutterstock. She
sued.
On August 30,
2022 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge J. Paul
Oetken held a proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
The
plaintiff's lawyer said this
was an intentional misuse and
appropriate of the image, the
Shutterstock put its watermark
on it and sold it - then when
confronted offered $200 minus
40 cents.
Shutterstock's
lawyer said there are a range
of complaints and plaintiffs'
lawyers attacking it, in a
coordinated fashion, and that
they are awaiting a ruling on
summary judgment before SDNY
Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein.
The
plaintiff's lawyers said they
are not connected to that
case, or firm.
Judge
Oetken said depositions should
be completed by December 9,
and referred the case to
Magistrate Judge Katharine H.
Parker.
The case is
