SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 4 -- Julio
Morales was supposed to show
up, but didn't have car fare,
on February 21 in the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York,
before Judge J. Paul
Oetken.
On March 4 Julio
Morales appeared before SDNY
Magistrate Judge Kevin N. Fox,
in custody. His Federal
Defender, Jennifer L. Brown,
told Judge Fox that Morales
has been trying to move to
Middletown.
She argued that
given his drug dependence and
need for 100 mg of methadone
per day, detention in the
Metropolitan Correctional
Center which has been on
lock-down for a week would not
help.
Judge Fox
apparently agreed - he ordered
Morales freed on $2500 bond,
secured only by his signature.
Hours later Inner City Press,
which was the only media in
the Mag Court during Morales'
bond hearing, witnessed and
filmed a large group entering
the MCC with identical rolling
bags. Perhaps this methadone
issue will soon be solved. The
case is US v. Morales,
16-cr-340 (Oetken /
Fox).
