SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 13 – Robert Balducci was
a corrections officer at
Rikers Island who smuggled in
scalpels to inmates in
exchange for
bribes.
On April 13, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Richard M. Berman held a
sentencing proceeding. Inner
City Press covered
it.
Judge Berman
called it a very serious
crime, and cited a recent
sentence imposed by Judge Paul
A. Engelmayer.
The defense said
the Rikers Island's
environment filled her client
with dread, and that he
attemped suicide.
Judge Berman
sentenced Balducci to ten
months in prison then three
years of supervised release,
which he implements in a very
active way.
The case is US v.
Balducci, 21-cr-355
(Berman)
