SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 4 – Hani Lakkis Lakkis
faces a rare "narco-terrorism"
charge, accused of a scheme to
supply military-grade weapons,
including surface to air
missiles, to the Colombian
rebels of the National
Liberation Army (ELN) for
hundreds of kilos of
cocaine.
On May 4, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge P. Kevin Castel held an
arraignment. Inner City Press
covered it.
The indictment
says Lakkis, along with
co-defendant Ahmed Omais
Serhan, "agreed to make the
weapons available for
inspection by ELN
representatives and to
transport the weapons from
Syria and elsewhere to
Spain."
Lakkis pleaded
not guilty. A next conference
was set for July 29 and Speedy
Trial Act excluded until them.
The case is USA
