SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 15 –
John
Pardovani sued
Crown Building
Maintenance
Co. and others
for racial
discrimination,
saying the "N"
word had been
used.
On November
10, 2022, U.S.
District Court
for the
Southern
District of
New York Judge
Sidney H.
Stein was
finishing up
the trial.
Inner City
Press went and
covered
it.
Counsel for
defendant Joel
Miele was
arguing that
nothing his
client did
violated the
applicable
discrimination
statutes - but
that the
plaintiff
writing to
Miele's
employer and
linking him
with
anti-Semitism
was
defamation.
But
the cross
claim was
unavailing,
when the
verdict came
in: "Verdict
reached in
favor of
plaintiff. The
jurors award
plaintiff
$800,000.00.
The attorneys
give
statements to
the jurors
regarding
punitive
damages. The
Court charges
the jury on
punitive
damages. The
jury begins
deliberations
on punitive
damages.
Verdict
reached on
punitive
damages; the
jury awards $1
million in
punitive
damages."
The case is
Pardovani v.
Crown Building
Maintenance
Co., at el.,
15-cv-9065
(Stein)
