Sports Lawyer Ejected From Amtrak Seat in Sunnyside Yards Is Said To Have Been Asleep

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Sept 22 –   Deanna Reiss is a sports lawyer who on an Amtrak train forgot to get off at Penn Station and rode to Sunnyside Yards in Queens where, she says, she was ejected from her seat and injured. Amtrak says she was asleep.

On September 22 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Denise L. Cote held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Opposing counsel were friendly and, it seemed, unprepared. What is the age of the client? Is there evidence of ejecting from the seat? How did she leave Sunnyside Yards?

None of it was clear. Either a motion for summary judgment (despite the seeming disputes of fact) or a joint Pretrial Order is due by January 12, 2022.

The case is Reiss v. National Railroad Passenger Corporation, 19-cv-1780 (Cote)
