SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 16 – James Savarese was a
New York City fireman for
three decades in the
Rockaways.
On July 1, 2015
he was driving on Beach 129th
Street and he noticed an NYPD
car parked in front of a fire
hydrant. Ultimately Savares
was arrested and put through
the system. He
sued.
On November 12
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lewis J. Liman held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
One of the
co-defendants, now retired
NYPD Traffic Supervisor
Deborah Youmans, is now
unrepresented.
There was an
application to file an
affidavit under seal about
her, as well as reference to a
parallel proceeding in the
EDNY.
On June 16, 2021,
Judge Liman held another
proceeding, and Inner City
Press again covered it. The
NYC Law Department had moved
to withdraw from representing
Debra Youmans and filed its
sealed affidavit about it. The
defendants have moved for
summary judgment.
This case is
Savarese v. City of New York
et al., 18-cv-5956 (Liman)
