SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 27 – Five
defendants were together in a
jury box in a guns and drug
gang case in which another has
pleaded guilty.
They were
all handcuffed. One of them
held a battered manila
envelope of documents in his
bound
hands.
On April 27, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Alvin K. Hellerstein held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
There were
motions to sever the trials -
denied - and for a bill of
particulars, also denied.
One of the
defense lawyers emphasized
that his client was in jail
during most of the charged
conspiracy. But he is part of
it, at this stage, was the
reply. And so five defendant
move toward trial.
The case
is US v. Smith, et al.,
21-cr-280 (Hellerstein)
