SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 16 – Meyya Meyyappan was
a scientist at U.S. NASA, but
he secretly worked with and
for the People's Republic of
China's "Thousand Talents
Program," and Soochow
University.
On June 16, U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge P.
Kevin Castel held a sentencing
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Meyyappan's lawyer said his
client hadn't meant to lie, or
wouldn't have, if he had a
lawyer with him. Judge Castel
asked how it was that
Meyyappan now has a net worth
over $6 million.
His lawyer said,
He works 80 hours a
week. Judge Castel
issued a sentence of 30 days,
which was quickly announced by
the US Attorney's Office press
office.
The sentence will
not begin until May 2022.
The case is US v.
Meyyappan, 21-cr-22 (Castel).
