Rapper 2 Chainz Is Sued in SDNY For Guard Beating Photog Capak Now Expands Discovery

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 11 –   The rapper Tauheed Epps, a/k/a 2 Chainz, was heading into 30 Rockefeller Plaza to the Jimmy Fallon show when photographer Richard Capak approached, to shoot video.

According to Capak, until he was "attacked, assaulted and battered" by the rapper's body guard, Rory Dorall Smith.

He sued, and it was it removed to Federal court.

On September 8, 2020 U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Katharine H. Parker held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

Reference was made to a party's mother having Coronavirus, and a loss of focus on the case.

Judge Parker set a settlement conference, which would require the presence of "the person with decision making authority to settle the matter."

It was not settled.

Jump cut to July 11, 2022, when Judge Parker held another conference, on discovery. Inner City Press again covered it. The defendant is represented by the Quinn Emanuel law firm. Judge Parker ruled that discovery is reopened so that defendant can get the plaintiff's medical records and "any statement in Plaintiff's custody or control made by Mr. Harry Velez;" they may depose Velez or Dr. Kaplan by August 31.

This case is Capak v. Epps et al, 18-cv-4325 (Abrams / Parker)
