SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 5 – Lawrence McAfee
was charged with armed robbery
in 2018. But he has been found
incompetent to stand trial.
Now what?
On May 5, U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge John F. Keenan
had scheduled an in-court
proceeding. Inner City Press
went to cover it.
Judge
Keenan, as it happened, called
in, citing a health issue. (We
wish him well). He presided by
phone. The defense wants the
case dropped.
The AUSA
emphasized that the mental
health expert picked by the
defense said that McAfee is a
danger to the community.
Judge
Keenan asked for letter,
including on exclusion of time
under the Speedy Trial Act, in
a week's time.
The case is
US v. McAfee, 18-cr-425
