SDNY COURTROOM
Exclusive, Nov 8 – Stephen Ide
has sued British Airways PLC,
on behalf of himself and all
other similarly situated, for
not refunding money for
flights canceled by the
COVID-19
pandemic.
On November 8 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Jesse M. Furman held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
British Airways had tried
unsuccessfully to have the
proceeding be sealed. Judge
Furman to his credit said no.
British Airways
now described significant
discovery production, and a
willingness to have settlement
discussion.
Judge
Furman said that while the
assigned Magistrate Judge is
experience, this might be a
case for private mediation,
given the complexity. He said
he would stay things once
more, but no longer.
On November 30
the parties wrote to the
assigned Magistrate Judge that
her services will not be
needed, that they have agreed
on mediator (and former
Magistrate) Diane Welsh, for
January 14.
The case is
Ide v. British Airways PLC,
20-cv-3542 (Furman)
