SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 24 – Donnell Russell
faces a July 18 trial for
making threats against those
who attended a December 4,
2018 screening of "Surviving
R.Kelly" at the NeueHouse
Madison Square in
Manhattan.
On May 24, U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Paul G.
Gardephe held a conference.
Inner City Press covered
it.
At issue what
whether Russell wanted to
continue with possibly
conflicted counsel Michael
Freedman, who called in from
California where he is
representing another defendant
at trial. Russell said he did,
even after a discussion with
the Federal Defender.
Judge
Gardephe said the waiver of
conflict free counsel was
knowing and voluntary, and set
a final pre-trial conference
for July 12 at 4:30 pm.
The case is US v.
Russell, 20-cr-538 (Gardephe)
