SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 2 – Santana Lantigua, as
owner of Audry Mini-Market,
was sued by his then-worker
Cesar Taveras.
Taveras had a law
firm, but settled on his own
with Lantigua then
disappeared. Now the law firm
is suing Lantigua for its
fees.
On March 2, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Katherine Polk Failla
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered
it.
Lantigua, though
an interpreter, lamented that
his business is now closed,
how can he pay "Cesar's
lawyer"? He said he had pass
the settlement money to
Taveras through a
friend.
Judge
Failla explained to him that
the law allows the firm to go
after him, for more than
$3000.
Lantigua asked
how he is supposed to pay it.
But it is being ordered.
The case is
Taveras et al v. Audry
Mini-Market, Inc. et al.,
20-cv-5080 (Failla)
