SDNY COURTHOUSE,
July 17 – Samantha Diaz, who
is deaf, sued BronxCare Health
System for not providing sign
language interpretation - and
for incorrectly telling her
she had AIDS.
On
July 15, 2022 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
Alvin K. Hellerstein held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge
Hellerstein inquired, and the
defense lawyer said there are
questions about "how deaf she
is;" he also provided excuses
for the AIDS false positive.
Judge Hellerstein
said any further parties must
be added by September 12, with
discovery running through
April 13, 2023.
The case is Diaz
v. BronxCare Health System,
21-cv-8924 (Hellerstein)
