SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 17 – The U.S. Department
of Defense has been sued under
the Freedom of Information Act
for records showing the number
of U.S. troops serving in
Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria on
a quarterly.
On December 17
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lewis J. Liman held a
proceeding. Inner City Press,
frequent user of FOIA, covered
it.
The
plaintiffs are asking that DOD
file affidavits for example on
the criteria is unses to plate
troops in temporary versus
permanent personnel
categories.
The US Attorney's
Office has replied that it not
required by FOIA and that the
next step should be motions
for summary judgment. Judge
Liman set a schedule.
The case is
Goodman v. Department of
Defense, 20-cv-8349 (Liman)
