SDNY MAG COURT
Exclusive, August 26 – Donovan
Grant was charged with
murdering Jercar Brooks in a
2014 marijuana robbery gone
wrong in 634 East 233rd Street
in The Bronx.
On
August 26, 2022 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Sarah Cave
held an in-person change of
plea proceeding. Inner City
Press went and covered it, the
only media in the SDNY Mag
Court.
Grant had
to revise his allocuation, and
even then, factual differences
if not disputes remained.
Grant was asked if he knew the
gun was loaded and said he had
not checked.
He admitted
firing twice. But the AUSA put
on the record that five shell
casing were found. Defense
counsel, dressed in bright
yellow like Grant, did not
dispute the five shell
casings. A Fatico hearing was
avoided and a November 28
control date was set.
The plea
agreement is for twenty years;
it's now on Inner City Press'
DocumentCloud here.
The case is US v.
Grant, 21-cr-655 (Hellerstein
/ Cave)
