SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Sept 22 – Hiawatha Cuffee was
injured while in a Department
of Corrections bus on the way
from Rikers Island to Bellevue
Hospital. He filed a lawsuit
that the bus went too fast and
skidded; he was thrown
forward,
shackled.
On August 5 U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Debra Freeman
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
While the
defendants were asking for a
default judgment for failure
to prosecute, Cuffee was
there.
Judge
Freeman allowed that perhaps
he had only misunderstood how
to respond to discovery
requests.
On
September 21, Magistrate Judge
Freeman held another
proceeding, on discovery
disputes. Cuffee had convey
that he would not attend, but
no one would say why. A notice
was mailed to him both on
Staten Island and in The
Bronx.
It is
Cuffee Jr. v. Gonzalez et al.,
15-cv-8916 (Gardephe /
Freeman)
