SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Aug 19 – Vladimir Mendez
appeared by video from the MCC
jail before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York Judge
George B. Daniels on August 5.
Inner City Press covered
it.
It was supposed
to be a change of plea
proceeding - but during it,
the US Attorney's Office
brought up a new arrest that
Mendez' lawyer said he was
hearing about for the same
time. He urged going
forward.
Judge Daniels put
it over two weeks to August
19, directly that all
information before provided to
him before then.
On August 19, the
sentencing was held, and Inner
City Press again covered it.
Probation had come forth with
more information and now there
were two charges, one with a
guideline of four to ten
months, the other six to
twelve. The US Attorney's
Office wanted them consecutive
to be followed by removal to
the Dominican Republic.
But Judge
Daniels, after hearing
directly from Mendez, imposed
sentences of four and six
months, concurrent - so, six.
Mendez thanked "Mister
Daniels."
The case is US v.
Mendez, 12-cr-377
(Daniels)
