SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Aug 5 – Hiawatha Cuffee was
injured while in a Department
of Corrections bus on the way
from Rikers Island to Bellevue
Hospital. He filed a lawsuit
that the bus went too fast and
skidded; he was thrown
forward,
shackled.
On August 5 U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Debra Freeman
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
While the
defendants were asking for a
default judgment for failure
to prosecute, Cuffee was
there.
Judge
Freeman allowed that perhaps
he had only misunderstood how
to respond to discovery
requests. The case will go
forwar It is Cuffee Jr. v.
Gonzalez et al., 15-cv-8916
(Gardephe / Freeman)
