SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 27 – Michael McConnell
wants to plead guilty to child
pornography charges - but only
in person.
On August
26 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lewis A. Kaplan held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Judge Kaplan asked for the
status of the case. AUSA
Alexander Li said he was told
by the Magistrate last week
that the Magistrates Court is
not taking in-person pleas at
this time.
Judge
Kaplan asked if McConnell
would consent to a virtual
plea.
This was met by
the argument that the
circumstances needed for this,
under the CARES Act, weren't
met in this case.
Judge Kaplan said that he
would be able to make the
finding, but only if McConnell
consented. Did he?
No, his lawyer
said.
And so an
in-person plea is set for
September 23 at 3 pm, in
person in SDNY Courtroom 21B
in 500 Pearl Street.
The case is US v.
McConnell, 19-cr-647
(Kaplan).
