Bukhara Grill in Turtle Bay Is Sued By Workers But Tells SDNY Has No Money Amid COVID

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - ESPN

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 17 – Rufina DeJesus sued the Indian restaurant Bukhara Grill on East 49th Street in Turtle Bay. But the restaurant's lawyers say the business is closed and broke, amid COVID shutdowns.

On February 17, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Barbara C. Moses held a proceeding. Inner City Press covered it.

The plaintiff avers he worked at Bukhara Grill from December 30, 2014 to July 19, 2020. Still, the defendants' lawyer asked rhetorically, Why did he sue? What does he want? We are broke.

There is a joint status report now due on March 31.

The case is Dejesus et al v. Bukhara Grill II, Inc. et al., 20-cv-6147 (Gardephe / Moses)
