June 24 – Former NBA players
Sebastian Telfair, Terrance
Williams and 16 others former
players were named in an
indictment unsealed on October
7 for defrauding the NBA
health fund, in Telfair's
case, for $350,000.
He
nevertheless got a publicly
funded lawyer. Inner City
Press was there, in U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York

On June 24,
co-defendant Eddie Robinson
pleaded guilty: "Minute Entry

Back in May
2022, this: "ORDER as to
(21-Cr-603-1) Terrence
Williams. WHEREAS the
Government has submitted an ex
parte request that the Court
review Mr. Williams' bail. IT
IS HEREBY ORDERED that a
hearing on Mr. Williams' bail
is scheduled for Friday, May
6, 2022 at 1:30 P.M. The
hearing will be held in
Courtroom 443 of the Thurgood
Marshall United States
Courthouse, located at 40
Foley Square, New York, New
York 10007. IT IS FURTHER
ORDERED that the Government
must disclose an unredacted
version of the letter to
Defense counsel, attorneys'
eyes only, by no later than
Friday, May 6, 2022 at 9:00
A.M. The Government must
provide Mr. Williams with a
redacted version of the letter
at the hearing."
And on May 6,
this: "ORDER as to Terrence
Williams: IT IS HEREBY ORDERED
that the defendant is REMANDED
to the custody of the United
States Marshal. (Signed by

5/6/2022)."
The case is
against 18 former NBA players
"for defrauding the NBA’s
Health and Welfare Benefit
Plan out of approximately
$4,000,000." It was been
assigned to SDNY District
Judge Valerie E. Caproni.
On October
28, Judge Caproni held a
proceeding including Anthony
Wroten. Inner City Press
covered it. Wroten wants to
play in China for the Whales -
there a team, the Blue Wales
of Sichuan - but to do so he
must waive extradition, and
have his children turn in
their passports and/or not
apply for any travel
documents.
And, Judge
Caproni said, he must come
straight back to the US after
the All Star Game, or World
Series - she laughed, and
said, playoffs. The case is
pushed back until May 2, 2022
and can even then be by phone,
she said. Inner City Press
