SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Dec 29 – John Lung, an
American running a shoe
company in Guangdong, China,
sued Jacob Samra as the father
and funder of his two sons'
now defunct fashion business
Yosi Samra.
On December
29 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Lewis J. Liman held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
The
Complaint alleged
misrepresentations at a show
and tell meeting at 515
Greenwich Street in Manhattan.
The defense says
the case is a last ditch
attempt to collect money that
Lung's SGI International
Corporation couldn't get from
the sons.
At issue
now is how depositions of the
plaintiff(s) in China will be
carried out. The defendant's
lawyer said he had a bad
experience with such a
deposition: it took three
days, due to interpretation
problems.
Judge Liman
told the parties to focus on
the logistics of the
depositions in China, asking
for example if the oath can be
administered by video there.
He set a
post discovery conference for
October 5, and said the
summary judgment motions will
be due on October 18.
The case is SGI
International Corp. et al v.
Samra, 20-cv-8631 (Liman)
